Senior Optical Designer – Machine Vision (f/m/d)

To support our efforts within the European Market, Edmund Optics in Mainz is looking for a Senior Optical Designer - Machine Vision (f/m/d)

This engineering position incorporates optical design and optical tolerancing for internal and external custom product developments.

Essential Functions:

* Execute both feasibility studies and full optical designs, for internal and external custom product developments

* Design evaluation and tolerance for manufacturability

* Assess customer functional requirements to gauge design considerations

* Provide support to customers needing assistance developing the specifications of their optical systems

* Development of design and analysis tools and procedures

* Collaborate, provide support and knowledge share with other team members

* Participate in design reviews, presentation of design results and analysis of performance

* Team up with the internal design and engineering resources around the globe

* Build out network within the regional and international optical design community and continuously enhance skills expertise in the fields of optical design and related

* Comply with federal, state, and company policies, procedures, and regulations

Your profile

* Minimum Bachelor’s Degree (Master’s Degree preferred) in optical sciences, physics or equivalent experience; Minimum seven (7) years’ experience in the optical industry; specific experience in imaging lens design

* Proficiency in optical principles and optical design and/or proficiency in opto-mechanical design

* Understanding of basic mechanical principles

* Understanding of manufacturing and assembly techniques

* Proficiency in optical design software (i.e. Zemax, CodeV, Fred)

* Knowledge of industry products and applications

* Fluent in English and German

* Great communication, organization, and math skills

* Willingness to travel occasionally
